Why you should encourage your Employees to get Better sleep
(Here's another way to show your employees how much you care)
Many new research have shown that not getting the recommended 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily, has serious implications on our mental abilities, and puts our physical health at real risks.
The alarming facts:
Individuals who frequently sleep less than 6 hours per night, compared to someone who sleeps 7 to 9 hours
higher mortality risk
increase in probability of suffering a stroke
more likely to get into an accident
Other real health risks: Weekend Immunity, Weight Gain, Memory Issues, Mood Changes, Trouble Thinking and Concentrating, High Blood Pressure, Risk for Diabetes, Risk of Heart Disease, Poor Balance etc
Don't even get us started on the health risk of excessive sleeping aka sleeping more than 9 hours daily.
Malaysia is no exception:
Only 47% of Malaysian employees are getting the necessary 7 hours of sleep a night. Malaysia has the highest percentage of employees that sleep less than 7 hours a night compared to Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. With 33% of Malaysians ages 30 to 70 showing symptoms of insomnia.
For Companies: Due to absence and presenteeism, Malaysian organisations lose a total of 73.3 days per employee, which have cost employers more than a million a year
For Individuals: Sleep deprivation accumulated over a long period also increases the probability of developing mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, besides impairing one’s attention, working memory and decision-making ability to divide attention between multiple tasks. These health symptoms can often lead to lower work productivity, increase in absenteeism, and higher turnover rates
